Sophia Wanyeki is a dedicated Special Needs Education teacher with over 33 years of teaching experience—17 in regular education and the past 16 focused on learners with special needs. Her passion lies in helping students acquire essential life and survival skills, supporting a wide range of learners aged 9 to 20. Her oldest students are placed in pre-vocational classes where they focus on practical skills and crafts. Sophia has seen a transformative shift since integrating outdoor learning through Good Natured Learning. The approach has helped reduce many challenges of indoor instruction—she has observed improved speech and reduced hyperactivity in learners with autism, as well as more regulated behavior and emotional control in learners with intellectual disabilities. For Sophia, GNL offers a therapeutic and effective model for special needs education.
